DR. FERRAZ-BANNITZ

I'm a research scientist working to understand and create ways to control metabolic diseases, especially obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

I enjoy generating new ideas and devising feasible solutions to broadly relevant to human health.

I have expertise in metabolism of glucose and energetic regulation in connection with Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, Cardiovascular Disease, Aging, Post-Bariatric Hypoglycemia and Molecular and Cellular Biology of Metabolism.

April 2022 - Present

POSTDOCTORAL, JOSLIN DIABETES CENTER - HMS

  • We seek to understand the genetic and epigenetic effects involved in paternal transgenerational transmission.

  • Study of genetic inheritance transmitted by the father to the embryo (blastocyst).

  • Discover the mechanisms associated with the emergence of Post-bariatric hypoglycemia (PBH).

  • Study of the DNA methylation pattern in individuals with type 1 and 2 diabetes.

June 2016 - June 2021

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHER, FMRP-USP

  • Developed a dietary strategy in a clinical environment capable of decreasing fasting glucose levels, lipid profile and blood pressure.

  • Studied changes in gut microbiota

  • Analyzed human adipose tissue RNA-seq

  • Analyzed the clinical and molecular effects from individuals working during the day and at nightshift work.

  • Analyzed the gene expression of adipose tissue in women undergoing bariatric surgery

April 2013 - May 2015

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHER, UNIFESP-EPM

  • Identification and characterization of a gene in C.elegans capable of controlling lifespan

  • Developed the RNAi method to study the metabolic pathways modulated by the IMPACT gene
